Rangila Basant: The Colorful Spring
We’d love for you to join us for an intimate baithak as we enter into the late spring season. The evening brings together Smt. Madhuvanti Bhide, Shri. Souryadeep Bhattacharyya, Shri. Prafulla Athalye, Shri. Sanjay Deshpande, and Shri. Siddhesh Bicholkar.
Ticketing & Event Policies
Cover Fee: A contribution of $30 per person is required to help cover event expenses. This concert is a community-supported event, and your support is sincerely appreciated. This Cover Fee is non-refundable.
Photography: To maintain the integrity of the performance, flash photography is not permitted during the event.
Dress Code: While not mandatory, traditional Indian attire is warmly encouraged to honor the cultural spirit of the evening.
Arrival Time: Performances will begin 3:00PM sharp, doors open at 2:45PM. Please arrive early to get situated, so as not to distract performers.
About the Artists
Madhuvanti Bhide
Madhuvanti Bhide is an established Hindustani classical vocalist based in the Bay Area. She belongs to the pedagogical lineage of Gaan Saraswati Pandita Dr. Alka Deo Marulkar and Pandit Rajabhau Deo, and her music is shaped by the tradition of Samagra Gayaki— an aesthetic synthesis of the Gwalior, Kirana, and Jaipur gharanas developed by her gurus. Alongside Hindustani classical music, she engages with semi-classical repertoire, film music, and light classical genres such as Hindi and Marathi geet and ghazal.
Souryadeep Bhattacharyya
Souryadeep Bhattacharyya is a sarod artist whose music is shaped by warmth, emotional honesty, and a deep personal connection with his listeners. An empaneled sarod artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and an All India Gold Medalist in Instrumental Music, Souryadeep is a senior Gandabandhan disciple of the legendary sarod maestro Pt. Alok Lahiri and also receives musical guidance from his Gurudada, the brilliant sarodiya Sri Abhisek Lahiri. Rooted in the rich tradition of the Maihar gharana, his music reflects a balance of rigorous classical grounding and personal, creative, present-moment expression.
Prafulla Athalye
Shri. Prafulla Athalye is a senior disciple of Legendary Tabla maestros Ustad Allarakha, Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar and Pt. Anindo Chatterji. Prafulla is an ‘A’ Grade artist of All India Radio and has won many music competitions including National Inter University Competition - 1995 organized by Association of Indian Universities and a National award in ‘Rashtriya Yuva Utsav - 1995’ organized by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. Prafulla is one of the finest tabla players of India today and currently he’s working as a faculty for Tabla for ‘Phoenix Gharana School of Indian Arts’, located at Scottsdale, Arizona in the US since 2013. Since 2024, he started teaching also in Bay area in Fremont and Dublin. He has performed internationally in more than 22 countries so far besides India and US and has had an honor of accompanying stalwarts of Indian classical music, such as his Guru, Ustad Allarakha, Ustad Zakir Hussein, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta, Dr. Smt. N. Rajam, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Rakesh Chaurasia, Smt. Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, etc and many others.
Sanjay Deshpande
Sanjay Deshpande is a talented Tabla Player based in Pune, INDIA. He was born in a music loving family and was introduced to the art of playing Tabla under Late Pt. Sabade at Pune Bharat Gayan Samaj. Later he took Taleem (lessons) from the renowned Tabla player Pt. Suresh Talwalkar of Delhi-Farookabad Gharana, in a Guru Shishya Parampara. He also had the privilege of understanding the beauty of Punjab Gharana under the guidance of world renowned Tabla maestro Ustad. Alla Rakha Khan Saheb and Pt.Yogesh Samsi. At present he is taking Taleem from
Pt. Vivek Joshi. Sanjay is recipient of the coveted “Ahmedjaan Thirakwaa Scholarship” for Solo Performance. He has accompanied renowned artists like Smt. Vasundhara Komkali, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Smt. Malini Rajurkar, Pt. Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Smt. Veena Sahastrabudhe and many such great artists. Siddhesh Bicholkar
Having imbibed primary lessons in music since childhood, Siddhesh has been privileged to receive guidance from his First Guru, Shri Sharad Mathkar in
Goa and later, placed under the tutelage of Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, renowned Harmonium exponent and Guru. The difficult and lesser known art of Jaltarang was taken up by Siddhesh with inspiration from Shri Sharad Mathkar, who personally crafted his first set of Jaltarang apparatus.
Siddhesh gained valuable knowlegde about Instrumental recitals and depths of Classical Music from Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, enabling Siddhesh to present Jaltarang Recitals, a very rare occurence in Indian Classical Music. He has been the recipient of many eminent music scholarships including accolades by the Govt.of India and its H.R.D. Ministry and many other awards to add to his long list of achievements. He is presently employed as a classical music teacher at Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya, Mumbai.
