• Tickets: Required for entry. All sales are final and non-refundable. This is a community-supported event — thank you for your support.

• No Flash Photography and Videography: Flash photography, video, and audio recording are not allowed during the performance.

• Dress Code: While not mandatory, traditional Indian attire is warmly encouraged to honor the cultural spirit of the evening.

• Arrival Time: Doors open at 9:45 AM; performance starts promptly at 10:00 AM. Late entry may be restricted.

About the Artists

Smt. Shubhangi Sakhalkar

Shubhangi Sakhalkar, a Hindustani classical vocalist, has been teaching and performing for over thirty years. After beginning her musical training with Smt. Kunda Vaishampayan, she went on to learn for several years from the renowned stalwarts Dr. Prabha Atre and Smt. Padma Talwalkar. From her teachers, Shubhangi inherited the best characteristics of three different gharanas: the Gwalior gharana’s clarity of raga presentation; the Kirana gharana’s purity of sur and vocal production; and the Jaipur gharana’s attention to intricate detail of pattern and rhythm. Shubhangi's artistic development has also been enhanced by academic training. She earned a gold medal for completing a master's degree in music at the top of her cohort. In addition, Shubhangi has brought her own dedicated riyaaz, creative imagination, and keen intellect to bear upon her art. She has developed a dynamic yet thoughtful vocal style that remains rooted in tradition while being uniquely her own. 

Shubhangi has performed widely all over India and the US. She is widely recognized as one of the finest exponents of Hindustani classical music in the United States. In order to nurture and promote Hindustani classical music in North America, Shubhangi has set up the Intonation Foundation, which organizes the annual Ustad Amir Khan Music Festival to showcase the talents of artists based in the U.S. and Canada.

Shri. Shripad Torvi

Shri. Shripad Torvi was introduced to Tabla in early childhood by his uncle, vocalist Pt. Vinayak Torvi. His formal education began after coming to the US, where he learned from Shri. Abhinay Padhye for about 5 years. Shripad has accompanied many artists locally and visiting artists from India. He has been continuing his tabla lessons from Tabla Maestro Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri for the last 5 years. Shripad has accompanied artists at the Ustad Amir Khan Music Festival since it was founded.

Shri. Vivek Datar

Vivek learnt art of harmonium solo and accompaniment from (late) Pt. Vinayakrao Kale, who was a Gwalior Gharana vocalist. Kalebua was a prolific composer, with more than 800 compositions of his own. Vivek has taught several of them to his disciples in the Bay Area.

Vivek has accompanied several noted artists such as Vidushi Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Vishushi Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Vidushi Padma Talwalkar, Pt Arun Dravid, Pt Madhav Gudi. He has keen interest in tuning theory and applications. He co-created a unique changeable-reed harmonium with Hinge Brothers from Mumbai.

Shri. Shivam Pathak

Shivam has been learning Tabla & Hindustani Classical Vocals since the age of 6. He recently graduated from Rice University in Texas. Shivam learned tabla from Shri Debankur Naskar for the first 4 years, and for the last 10 years, Shivam has been taking taleem from Shri Sanjay Deshpande. Additionally, Shivam had received the prestigious scholarship from the Ali Akbar College of Music to learn tabla from Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri. Shivam also learned Hindustani Classical Vocals from Smt. Sujata Ghanekar for 9 years, and at present he is learning from Pt. Shantanu Bhattacharyya.

Shri. Rajdeep Singh

Rajdeep Singh is a harmonium accompanist and a disciple of Shri Tanmay Deochake. He has been learning harmonium for the past 6 years. 

He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Anindo Chatterjee, Arvind Kumar Azad, and Nishad Bakre. He also regularly accompanies Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri on lehra in his tabla classes at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music.

Outside of music, Rajdeep works as a Design Engineer in San Jose.
